The application of Chlormequat chloride in controlling growth and shrinkage of wheat and resistant to lodging
The UK is the first country to report the application of plant growth retardation - Chlormequat chloride inhabiting wheat basal elongation and effectively prevent wheat lodging, setting a precedent for the successful application of chemical control technology in field crops(non fruit tress and horticultural crops). Since the 1960s, Chlormequat chloride has been widely used in continental Europe, as well as in the UK, Australia, and the United States to prevent the lodging of wheat and rye, achieving good results. Currently, it is still being used in many regions. Statistics show that the application area and nitrogen fertilizer application level of dwarf hormones in European wheat increased in parallel with the wheat yield from the 1960s to the 1990s, indicating that high wheat yield cannot be achieved without the protection of chemical control technology.
